Although English and Polish belong to different langu-age families, the underlying structure and the functions of coordinate constructions in these two languages arę remarkably similar, which stems from the naturę of co-ordination as one of the most basie, cross-linguistical-ly available structure-building strategies. Despite their ubiąuity and syntactic versatility, coordinate structures still present a challenge for syntactic analyses, which can be partly attributed to the coexistence of semantic and syntactic symnietries and asymmetries within such structures. The aim of this study is to analyse the proper-ties and the syntactic structure of English and Polish coordinate constructions, as well as to propose a syntactic derivation of verbal agreement with coordinate subjects in Polish, couched within the Minimalist Program.
